Supporters of the main opposition United National Party (UNP) led by
its parliamentarians Mr.Tissa Attanayake , the general
secretary of the party and Mr. Ravi Karunanayake, including media
personnel were attacked in Deniyaya Sunday morning while they were on
their way to inspect the alleged Presidential palace under
construction in the area.
They were stopped by a gang said to be supporters of the ruling United
Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) who had attacked them, according to
complaints lodged with Deniyaya Police. However, Minister Mr. Dilan Perera told media persons that the UNP
procession along the route was stopped because of a visit later Sunday
evening to the site by President Mahinda Rajapakse.
