Former Sri Lankan Cricket Captain and Gampaha district SLFP MP Arjuna Ranatunga on Thursday expressed support to president candidate General (retd) Sarath Fonseka Thursday. Mr. Ranatunge made this announcement at joint press confrence in Colombo along with General Fonseka and UNP Vice President Karu Jayasuriya and JVP parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

"Today, Gen. Fonseka has pledged to the nation that if he is elected that he will eradicate corruption. Therefore, I decided to support him to strengthen his bid to become President," Mr. Rantunga said adding that he is still a member of the SLFP.

"My father and my brother are also members of this government but I can't betray my nation," he further said blaming the SLFP leadership for sidelining the pioneer members of the SLFP and giving prominent positions to those who cross over to SLFP from the UNP.
