Kalkudaa Police Thursday arrested a cadre of TMVP led by Pillayan, Chief Minister of the Eastern Provincial Council (EPC), with four T-56 rifles and nine magazines in Maangkearni in Vaakarai division in Batticaloa district. The suspect has been identified as Sinnathamby Vettivel, 26.

The weapons were found buried in the home garden of the TMVP member.

Kalkudaa Police are conducting the investigations to ascertain the reasons for the weapons found buried and the suspect is being interrogated, under detention, Colombo police spokesman said.

Originally a member of the LTTE, the suspect had left the organization with Karuna Amman who was the Commander of Armed Division in the East.

The suspect subsequently left Karuna to join Pillaiyan’s TMVP.

Karuna and Pillayan are now supporting the government led by President Mahinda Rajapakse.
