The organisation for the arrested and the disappeared in Jaffna will hand over a petition today to the Sri Lanka desk head of the International Committee for the Red Cross who is currently on a duty tour in Sri Lankan.
The petition urges the ICRC to at least find out what had happened to all those who were arrested or went missing in Jaffna since the conclusion of the Riviresa Operation in early 1996. The kith and kin of the more than seven hundred missing people in Jaffna launched a series of peaceful protests movement in Jaffna. The campaign began at the Nallur Kandaswamy temple on September 19. The Organisation says that more than 700 persons have gone missing due to Sri Lankan army action since early last year. Amnesty International has also confirmed that over 700 people are missing since being taken into army custody.
