Dengue deaths toll increases to 63

The highest number of fourteen deaths due to dengue has been reported
from Jaffna district, eleven from Colombo district and seven from
Gampaha. The death toll has risen to sixty three in the island. There
were twelve deaths in February and the rest in January but no death
has been reported in the month of March till Friday, according to
Epidemiology Unit sources of the Health Ministry
Ministry sources have issued a warning to the public that there was a
decrease in the number of cases detected, but the situation could
worsen with the onset of North East monsoonal rain expected in April
and May. The Health Department has formulated an action plan to contain the
spread of the deadly fever and also to educate the people about the
eradication of the dengue. Schools have been asked conduct a week awareness programme to clean
school premises to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
