Batticaloa district tops in election related violence

Twenty four complaints related to election violence have been recorded
from the Batticaloa district, twenty reported from Kandy district,
thirteen from Matale district and 12 from Kanthalaay DS division in
Trincomalee district, according to a report submitted by the police at
a press briefing held Tuesday.
Senior DIG of Police Administration and Crimes, N.K. Illangakoon added
that the IGP has already started giving special attention to the
Batticaloa District. He said the Police are on 24-hour alert in
monitoring and preventing election violence. According to their
reports, they have received 219 complaints up to now from the Police
stations around the country. “When considering the latest situation,
it appears that there has been a sudden eruption of violence in the
Nuwara Eliya District within the past two or three days,” he pointed
out.
