President Mahinda Rajapakse is expected to arrive in Jaffna Thursday to address a public meeting to be held in Duraippaa Stadium Thursday arranged by Eelam Peoples’ Democratic Party (EPDP), an ally of ruling United Peoples’ Freedom Alliance (UPFA), EPDP sources in Jaffna said. Meanwhile, Varatharaja Perumal, the leader of Eelam Peoples’ Revolutionary Front (EPRLF Varathar faction) and the former Chief Minister of North-East provincial council, arrived in Jaffna Wednesday, sources in Jaffna said.

Mahinda Rajapakse will worship in the Buddhist temples in Nalloor and Aariyaku’lam Naaka Vikaarai Thursday morning before addressing the public meeting.

Security arrangement in the above places has been strengthened with additional Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers and police personnel.

EPRLF Pathmanaba faction, on being asked whether Varatharaja Perumal had come for election campaign purposes, said that he has come to discuss future activities with the intellectuals in Jaffna peninsula as well as in north and east.

Varatharajah Perumal will hold a press briefing in the EPRLF office of Pathmanaba Wing located on Hospital Road in Jaffna Thursday around 10:00 a.m, EPRLF sources said.
