“Winning the hearts of Sinhalese should be the main aim” – Varatharaja Perumal

“All the Tamils in Sri Lanka together should strive to win the hearts of the Sinhalese,” Varatharaja Perumal, the leader of Eelam People’s Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF) said in the press meet he held Friday at the EPRLF office of Pathmanaba faction located on Hospital Road Jaffna. “If all the Tamil factions agree on a common solution for the ethnic issue India will exert its pressure on Sri Lanka to implement it,” Varatharaja Perumal said.

EPRLF Sritharan, Mohan and Thuraitatnam from Batticaloa were present at the press meet. “Tamil factions should adopt a lenient attitude at least in the future understanding the reality and this is what the Indian journalists and politicians expect,” Perumal further said. Answering various questions raised by journalists from a large section of Jaffna peninsula media persons Varatharaja Perumal told them that the forthcoming parliamentary election was not important and stressed on the following. • The solution for the ethnic issue should reach beyond the 13th Amendment. • Power sharing should be implemented in the right way. • Every one should be given detailed clarification of the powers to be shared except those of national level. • Immediate action should be taken to fulfill the urgent needs of the Tamils including the resettlement of Vanni people. Varatharaja Perumal since his arrival in Jaffna Wednesday has been meeting his supporters in the peninsula. In a meeting held with his supporters at the Hospital Road office Thursday future plans of EPRLF were discussed, EPRLF sources said.
