SL Parliament meets, Fonseka complains of breach of his privileges

Sri Lanka Parliament Tuesday morning commenced its four day sittings
with Speaker Chamal Rajapakse in the chair. The Prime Minister was
scheduled to table a motion on behalf of the government with certain
relaxation in elements of the Emergency Regulations (ER) seeking the
extension of the State of Emergency now in force since August 12,
2005 for another month.
Soon after the parliament began its session, Sarath Fonseka, leader of
the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) parliamentary group lodged a
complaint with the Speaker that his parliamentary
privileges have been violated as he has been summoned by the second
court martial against him Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. despite
parliament session. General Fonseka has been charged before the second court martial for
his alleged involvement in tender irregularities in some procurements
of arms for the Sri Lanka Army.
