The parliamentary group delegation of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna
led Democratic National Alliance (DNA) is scheduled to undertake a
three day-tour to Vanni and Jaffna from June 14 Monday. JVP leader
Somawansa Amarasingha will be leading the delegation, according to DNA
parliamentary group leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake to media Sunday.
JVP delegation is to visit camps and detention centres in Vavuniyaa
where hundreds of uprooted Tamil civilians from Vanni during the final
leg of the war against the LTTE are detained. The delegation also
would study the shortcomings and the urgent needs of those uprooted
Tamils waiting for the resettlement in their villages in Vanni, JVP
sources said. JVP parliamentarians Anurakumara Dissanayake said his delegation is
also scheduled to meet a delegation of the Jaffna University Students
Union. The delegation led by the Inter University Students Union (IUSU) led
by Udul Premaratne was refused permission last week to enter the
Jaffna University to hand over relief materials to those uprooted
Vanni undergrads.
