The Magistrate of Mallakam, Mr. S.Sabanathan, today ordered the release of Thatparanathan Sivarooban, 19, a school boy who was arrested by the Sri Lanka Army on April 29. He was produced in the courts today by the police.
The students of Stanley College ( Kanakaratnam Mahaviththiyalayam) have been boycotting classes for the last four days. Several other schools have also joined the protest. Yesterday evening, a delegation comprising Mr. Thanikasalampillai, Director of Education, school principals and representatives of the Ceylon Tamil Teachers Union met the SLA's Jaffna Town Commander, Col.D.R.A.P.Jayathilake. The Col. had told the delegation that there was evidence suggesting Sivarooban had links with the Liberation Tigers and that he would be handed over to the Police.
