SC sends decision on Local Elections (amendment) bill to Speaker

Sri Lanka’s Supreme Court has sent its decision on the proposed
draft of the Local Authorities Elections (Amendment) Bill on its
constitutionality to the Speaker of the of Parliament. The Speaker,
Chamal Rajapaksa, is likely to inform the parliament on the Supreme
Court decision when the parliament meets Tuesday (November 9)
Meanwhile, the parliament is to take up seven bills for debate during
its session that commences on Tuesday. The Registration of Deaths of
Persons (Temporary Provisions) is one of the seven bills,
parliamentary sources said. The Prime Minister is to move a motion seeking the extension of the
State of Emergency for another month on Tuesday. The State of
Emergency is in force since August 2005.
