North, East already established as Tamils’ Homeland – Prof. K. Sitrampalam

[TamilNet, Sunday, 14 November 2010, 06:08 GMT]
“Banda-Chelva pact and Indo-Sri Lanka pact were based on the acceptance of North and East as the homeland of the Tamils in Sri Lanka. This concept should be first accepted and a constitutional reform based on it be brought to find a lasting solution for the ethnic issue,” Prof. S.K. Sitrampalam said Friday giving witness before the Lessons Learnt & Reconciliation Committee (LLRC) in Jaffna Secretariat.

Meanwhile, Mr. C. V. K. Sivagnanam, former Commissioner of Jaffna Municipal Council and Tamil National Alliance (TNA) contestant said that the political lessons of the past 60 years have not been learnt to address the political aspirations of the Tamils which remain unfulfilled and added that the Tamils will engage in an internationally accepted democratic struggle to regain their political rights. Sri Lanka government cannot avoid facing an armed struggle if the democratic struggle fails, he added providing testimony before LLRC in its Jaffna University session Friday.

Most of the persons who witnessed before LLRC Friday in Changaraththai and Kurunakar Friday were parents who said that Sri Lanka Army (SLA), Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) and its paramilitary men had abducted their sons and daughters who had disappeared after arrest.

Former Vice-chancellor of Jaffna University Prof. P. Balasuntharampillai, Rajan Hoole were some of the persons who witnessed before the LLRC Friday in its Jaffna University session.

LLRC recorded the statements Friday in Changkaraththai in Vaddukoaddai, Jaffna Secretariat, Jaffna University and Kurunakar Friday.
