Paramilitary-employed Daya master says ex Tiger members unable to secure jobs

[TamilNet, Sunday, 14 November 2010, 17:23 GMT]
“All the former Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) combatants detained should be released under general amnesty and steps should be taken to reunite them with their families enabling them to lead a normal life,” V. Thayanithy, who was once an employed media coordinator of the movement, said while 'witnessing' at a session before Mahinda Rajapaksa's 'Lessons Learnt & Reconciliation Commission' (LLRC) in Oorkaavattu’rai St. Henry’s Church, in the islets of Jaffna on Sunday. 'Employers are reluctant to give jobs to the rehabilitated and released former LTTE combatants. They are unable to lead a normal life and they should be assisted to rejoin the society, Mr. Thayanithy said.

Thayanithy, who was forced to collaborate with Rajapaksa government while in Sri Lankan custody, on Sunday said both sides were responsible for civilian deaths in Vanni during the war.

On being asked about the fate of so many persons arrested at Oamanthai with whom he too had come out of Vanni gone missing, Thayanithy, who has been collaborating with Colombo-establishment said that he cannot answer the question.

Thayanithy, who has been living in Jaffna with Sri Lankan police protection now moves about freely as he is employed as a news editor in DAN Television in Jaffna run by Sri Lanka Minister and head of Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP), Douglas Devananda.

The Sunday Leader, in September 2010 revealed that Thaynithy has made millions after he surrendered to the Sri Lanka Army and said Daya Master is one of the "most prominent and emerging power brokers in Jaffna."

The paper also said DAN TV has been for long popularly associated with Devananda’s EPDP.

The paper came with another story on Sunday stating that the Sri Lankan government was aiming to woo Tamil diaspora support through DAN TV.
