SLA 'arrests' two Tamil youths in Batticaloa

Two Tamil youths, both residents of Katpaanaik-ku'lam in Aayiththiyamalai police division in Paduvaankarai area in Batticaloa district were taken into custody Friday by about ten persons in Sri Lanka Army (SLA) uniform who arrived in army jeep and three motor bicycles.
Perinparasa Thavaseelan, 20, was taken from his house by persons who identified them as soldiers of the SLA. Thirukeswaran, brother of Thavaseelan, was taken into custody on his way home by SLA soldiers, according to the youths' mother in her complaint to the police. At the time of 'arrest' by the SLA soldiers Friday Mr. Thirukeswaran was undergoing a driving course. A person brought by the SLA soldiers in their vehicle was said to be locating a mysterious object in the land belonging to Thavaseelan and, thereafter, Thavaseelan was taken to Karadiyaanaa'ru police station and from there to Eraa’voor police station, according to his relatives. The matter has been brought to the notice of the district parliamentarians and provincial councillors by the youths' relatives.
