The body of a young male person recovered from an empty fertilizer bag hidden under a culvert located in Panichchaiyadi area in Saththurukko'ndaan village in the Batticaloa police division Sunday evening was identified on Monday by his relatives as that of Rasiah Kanthithas, 29, of Thimilaa-theevu. The owner of a hotel in front of the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital where the deceased had been working was arrested Tuesday by the Batticaloa Police in connection with the alleged murder. Six others were also taken into custody by the Police in this connection, sources in Batticaloa said.

The deceased on his return after working in a Middle East country for two years had joined the hotel.

At that time of incident he had been residing with his brother at Thirupperunthu'rai and going work in the hotel. Normally he left for work around 7 for work and return the next day morning at 7 am.

On last Saturday morning he left for work but failed to return the next day morning as has been the usual routine.

On Sunday evening a police team rushed to the site on receipt of information from the public that a suspicious bag had been seen under the culvert and recovered the body. Later his body was identified by his relatives.
