Razeek cadre, policeman killed in Kalmunai

A member of the ninth National Guard of the Sri Lanka Army (Razeek Group) and a policeman were shot dead in two separate incidents in Kalmunai area in the south-eastern Ampara district this morning,.

The Razeek Group member, Anton Jude Ranjan, (22), was shot dead at Vaddavithanaiyar road in Kalmunai around 8 a.m. He was attached to the Sri Lanka Army camp at Welikanda.

The policeman, Abdul Sattar, was shot dead at Natpiddimunai around 7 a.m.while he was returning from duty at a checkpoint at Telecom Exchange.

Sources said tension prevailed in the Kalmunai town following the incidents.

The bodies were brought to the Kalmunai hospital on the orders of the District Judge, Mr.Anton Balasingham.

The mother of Anton Yude Ranjan said in a statement made to the Kalmunai Police that his son (deceased) was a member of the Razeek group.

He was shot dead while he was on his way to Batticaloa, the mother said.

The leader of the ninth National Guard, Ganeshamoorthy alias Razeek, was killed in a bomb blast in Batticaloa last week.
