4000 demonstrate in Batticaloa

Over 4000 school children demonstrated Saturday in Paduvankarai, the western hinterland of the Batticaloa district, demanding that the Sri Lankan Government, among other things, stop the war and lift the economic embargo on this region.
The students also demanded that schools be allowedpermanent buildings. The procession had been organised to the mark Tamil Eelam students' day, said sources. One demonstration began at Karadiyanaaru junction around 2 p.m. and ended at the Mahavidyalayan (school) there. The other demonstration began at Ambilanthurai junction and ended at the school there. The marching students, lead by music bands, carried placards and shouted slogans, said sources. The LTTE's political wing leader for the Batticaloa-Ampara diastricts, Visu, the senior administrator of the Batticalao-Ampara district, Nisam and the political wing leader for the Batticaloa division, Nesakumar spoke at the meeting. School principals and public dignitaries also spoke at these meetings.
