China, India and Pakistan are among 40 countries that have confirmed their participation to attend a conference Sri Lanka is convening on 31 May to give advice on a new model for defeating insurgencies, Financial Times said Thursday, citing Sri Lankan officials. Colombo invited military officials from 54 countries. The US, Britain and a number of other European countries are still considering whether to attend, Financial Times further said. Commenting on the conference SL Brigadier Udaya Nanayakara said, “We also want to set the record clear that we have not committed any war crimes.”
Since the EU parliament has set a new model of leaving investigation itself to the indicted, as in the case of Sri Lanka, there is no reason for the USA, Britain and the other European countries to lose the opportunity of learning from Sri Lanka, commented Sri Lanka watchers.
