Occupying Army adds insult to injury in Jaffna

The commander of the occupying genocidal Army of Sri Lanka, Maj. Gen. Mahinda Hathurusinghe accompanied by large number of troops on Saturday visited the Changkaanai Murugamoorthi temple where the chief priest was killed and his two sons were fatally injured in a vicious firing, during a time when the occupiers were terrorising the people of Jaffna after the Heroes Day last November. “A special Pooja to invoke blessing on Commander Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe and the troops serving in Jaffna was held,” said the website of the genocidal Army, adding that the Army prayed to stay more and more in Jaffna. Besides adding insult to injury, it was a subtle show of intimidation aimed at silencing or twisting evidence, observers said.

Occupying military’s intelligence unit is widely accused for the real terrorist way of firing at the temple priests, in a locality that is fully under the control and presence of the occupying troops.
Hathurusinghe first accused former LTTE cadres, but the strong nature of evidences forced him to concede the ‘use of SL Army gun’ in the incident, which he said the former LTTE cadres might have had borrowed from corrupt troops.
Two alleged assailants and two SL military personnel ‘suspected’ for giving guns were arrested, but subsequently the courts released all of them.
Informed sources say with certainty that the real culprits were part of a full-time paramilitary trained and armed by the SL military intelligence.
The attack in the temple that had no other motivation other than terrorising the people killed the chief priest. His two sons, fatally injured, still find life difficult.

On Saturday, Mahinda Hathurusighe and his troops suddenly entered the temple while special rituals were going on and said that it was they who had organised the rituals.
Hathurusinghe, while at the temple, said that he was paying tribute to the chief priest killed by “ex-LTTE terrorists.”
According SL Defence Website, Hathurusinghe conducted a ritual called ‘Maha Mruthyunchaya Homam’, through the present chief priest Sugan Sarma Kurukka’l for Lord Shiva to bestow strength, dynamism and long life to him and to all soldiers serving in the peninsula, “to serve more and more to Jaffna and its people.”
Hathurusinghe “paid floral tribute to the newly erected statue of former head priest Late Sri Siva Nithyananda Kurukkal who sacrificed his life at the hands of ex-LTTE terrorists last December,” the website of the occupiers further said.
People present in the temple ignored Hathurusinghe and his military.
The SL military now concentrates on making Eezham Tamils to permanently accept its genocidal rule and in intimidating any evidence coming against it, news sources in Jaffna said.
A few days ago, presidential sibling Basil Rajapaksa made a veiled threat in Jaffna, implying that any support to international investigation of war crimes amounts to treason.
Terrorist-minded forces operating in the world chose Mahinda Hathurusinghe of the genocidal Army for the award of Guci Peace Prize last year, which his Army was parading as “ Asian equivalent of Nobel Peace Prize,” civil society sources in Jaffna pointed out with indignation.
