GA visits villages north of Mannar

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 15 June 1999, 02:12 GMT]
The Mannar Government Agent, S.M.Crooz, with the approval of the Sri Lankan Army (SLA), travelled up to Paappamoddai, located 12 km. south of Vidathaltheevu and 8 km north of Mannar, on the Mannar-Pooneryn road yesterday. The GA said that 175 persons belonging to 45 families are currently living there.

A lorry load of essential commodities was also transported when the GA visited the village. The goods are to be distributed through the co-operative stores, said Kachcheri sources.

The SLA, however, did not give permission to the GA to travel beyond Paappamoddai.

The GA will be travelling to Aalkaaddy village on Wednesday with supply of essential commodities.

TELO parliamentarian Mr.Adaikkalanathan said today that he will initiate development of Vidathaltheevu and help the civilians. Mr.Adaikkalanathan is a native of Vidathaltheevu.

He further said that he will urge other ministers to begin development projects in Vidathaltheevu, when he meets them in the parliament tomorrow during the debate on extension of Emergency Regulations.

Meanwhile 141 Tamil refugees, including 30 children, are reported to have arrived in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
