‘Grease devil’ scare forces female nurse trainees to vacate hospital[TamilNet, Sunday, 21 August 2011, 14:25 GMT]The “grease devil” scare has driven all the inmates numbering 180 from the Nurses Training Institute of the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital. They have been staying in their residences elsewhere in the Batticaloa town for safety. In another incident that took place Saturday afternoon, two men who came in a bicycle stopped a woman who was going to a nearby shop and attacked her. The attackers vanished from the area to the nearby military camp as the attacked woman started to shout seeking help, sources said. At the Nurses Training Institute, three female nurses during lunch time had gone to the latrine of the institute, were taken aback when a man suspected to be a “grease devil” was waiting inside the latrine. They raised cries and rushed to the hospital. Hospital authorities asked them to stay in the upper floor of the building instead of the down floor. But, when they went to the upper floor, they saw a man climbing down the roof. Tension prevailed in the hospital and all the nurses thereafter packed up their bags and left to their residences after informing their superiors. Meanwhile a woman Mrs. Mohan, mother of three children was admitted to the Vaazhaich-cheanai government hospital with the history of assault by a ‘grease devil”. She was attacked by a mysterious person at a place close to the Vaazhaich-cheanai fisheries harbour and the attacker had rushed to nearby camp, civil sources said. Chronology:
