Three Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers and two Liberation Tigers (LTTE) were killed in a confrontation in the Paappamoddai area of the Mannar district this morning today, said army sources.

The fighting erupted when the Liberation Tigers attacked the SLA forward defences lines in the Paappamoddai area, 10 km. north of Mannar town along the Mannar-Pooneryn trunk road, the sources added.

The SLA said that the attack has been repulsed.

The Sri Lankan Army moved into Paappamoddai following 'Operation Rana Gosa-4' launched on June 11.
