Four fishermen were arrested by Sri Lankan Navy personnel yesterday in the seas off Mandaithivu, an island south-east of Jaffna town, said witnesses.

The arrested have been identified as: I.Manoharan, C.Amalan, T.Emmanuvel and T.Joseph.

They are currently detained at the Mandaithivu SLN camp.

Meanwhile, two Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers were killed this morning when the Liberation Tigers ambushed a road patrol near the Uduppidy junction, about 18 km. north of Jaffna town, said sources.

SLA sources said that the attackers withdrew when the troops retaliated.

The soldiers from the Valvettithurai SLA camp were on route clearing patrol when the attack took place, the sources added.
