Due to the travel restrictions imposed by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA), people living in areas it does not control, such as Chempianpattu, Thanippanai, Nelliyan and Maamunai are unable to go to hospital, Divisional Secretariat and other government institutions in the SLA-controlled areas in Vadamaradchi East, residents said.

The SLA ban on travelling into and out of areas it does not hold in Vadamaradchi East came into effect on Saturday, residents said.

People living in Maruthankerni village, now under SLA control are also not allowed to travel to areas where the SLA is not present, sources said.

People living in both areas are facing severe hardships in running their day to day lives, residents said.
