PLOTE, TELO warned

Leaders of the PLOTE and TELO, two paramilitary organisations operating alongside the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in Vavuniya were summoned to the SLA headquarters today to discuss the situation prevailing the region due to the clashes between the two groups, said sources.
Officials of the People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) and Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO) met with SLA officials. The sources said that matters related to the clashes, killings between the two groups and levying of tax from the traders in Vavuniya town by the groups' gunmen were discussed. The meeting had been arranged by Major General Santha Kotegoda of the Vanni Security Forces Head Quarters, the sources added. The sources further said that the SLA officials in the meeting had expressed their displeasure over the matters discussed. The representatives of the paramilitary groups had been warned to bring their cadres under control, the sources added. Scores of people, both civilians and gunmen have been killed in the long running feud between the PLOTE and the TELO, with gunfights taking place in Colombo and Vavuniya.
