Indian fisherman killed

The body of a South Indian fisherman was handed over to Mannar hospital this afternoon by the Talaimannar police, through the Talaimannar Divisional Secretary (DS) on the orders of Mannar District Judge Ilancheliyan said police sources.
The dead fisherman, Alfred (Ed: one name only) of Katkulam, Taluk, South India was adrift near Talaimannar yesterday with three others, according to a Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) statement. The Navy said in its statement to the Talaimannar police, that the fishermen had said that another boat had fired on them, killing Alfred. However, the police sources said Navy's claim is yet be verified. The other fishermen, Soosai Michael Kasmir,45, Boniface John Bosco, 45 and Paulsami Ramachandran of Ramanathapuram South India, are still in SLN custody, they said.
