Jaffna demining team arrives

Eight members of the United Nations Development program sponsored demining team arrived in Jaffna by ICRC ship yesterday around 4 p.m., bringing with them four dogs which will be use to sniff out mines, said sources.

Another team is expected to arrive by ship next week and, the demining process is scheduled to begin on July 19.

Sixteen Sri Lankans who had undergone training in demining will also take part in the programme, said the sources.

Mr. Taylor who is co-ordinating the demining programme in the peninsula has praised the Government and the Liberation Tigers for lending their support to the programme.
