The Special Task Force (STF) conducted a house to house search today in Thaalankudah village, 7 km. south of Batticaloa, and took the men there to the Catholic Church there.
At the church, an STF officer warned the villagers to divulge any information they had on the Liberation Tigers. "If your sons are in the LTTE tell them to surrender to us, inform us of any LTTE activity in Thaalankudah, and give us information about the 2 former Razeek group cadres turned robbers who are hiding in this area," said the officer. The search was conducted from 5 a.m.-12 noon, sources said. Elsewhere, SLA troops fired on LTTE members last night around 10.30 p.m. in Kallar, said police sources. The Tigers were trying to infiltrate the Kallar area through the Kallar causeway when the troops opened fire, the sources said. The SLA conducted a search in Kallar this morning and found an abandoned boat with a T-56 assault rifle in it, drifting in the lagoon, they said. The Tigers escaped by jumping into the lagoon, they added.
