SLN, EPDP exchange fire

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 25 November 1997, 23:59 GMT]
When the EPDP returned to Kayts island with its wounded on Saturday, there was an exchange of gunfire between the Sri Lankan navy personnel guarding Kayts jetty and the EPDP in the boats, it is reported.

In the exchange of fire, one SLN guard was killed and another injured said sources in Jaffna.

The EPDP sustained their casualties when Sri Lankan navy fired on their boats without warning.

Thirteen undergraduates of the University of Jaffna are being held at the SLA's "Cey-Nor camp" at Gurunagar in Jaffna awaiting clearance from SLA.

The undergraduates had recently arrived in the peninsula from the Vanni region where the Sri Lankan military has been conducting a six-month offensive.
