SL Police, intelligence officers threaten relatives of missing persons in Mannaar

Sri Lankan Police Constables and Intelligence operatives of the occupying SL military in Mannaar have threatened and harassed the relatives and families of missing persons, who wanted to appear in front of the SL Presidential Commission on Missing Persons (SLPC) which held its hearings between 08 and 11 August in Mannaar. The chairman of Mannaar Citizens Committee, Rev Fr Immanuel Sebamalai, told TamilNet that SL military intelligence officers had even gone to the extent of telling the people that there will be no use in appearing in front of the SLPC.
230 witnesses were supposed to present themselves from three DS divisions of Mannaar West, Mannaar and Madu. But, only 155 people managed witnessed, Fr Sebamalai told TamilNet. No sittings were held for the witnesses from Musali and Naanaaddaan DS divisions. The Citizens Committee has registered 260 cases of missing persons in Mannaar, according to the chairman of the Citizens Committee in Mannaar. When the Citizens Committee took up the issue of the threats from police and intelligence officers with the Commission, the president of the SLPC was seeking details of the police officers to take action against them, the chairman of the Citizens Committee further said. He met the SLPC chairman after the conclusion of the hearings at Madu DS Secretariat on Monday.
