Nine policemen killed

(Correction) Nine Sri Lanka police personnel were killed and 18 wounded when a bus they were travelling was hit by a claymore mine in the eastern Batticaloa district this morning around 11.30 a.m.

The bomb exploded as the convoy approached Railway station junction on the Batticaloa-Trincomalee road sources said. The attack took place about 500 metres from the Batticaloa Police station the sources added.

The wounded policemen have been rushed to the Batticaloa hospital.

Further details are not known.
