Tamil mother complains of neglect in tracing missing daughter, featured in photo with Sirisena

[TamilNet, Friday, 11 December 2015, 23:12 GMT]
A 15-year-old Eezham Tamil girl, Thanoja Viveganathan from Mu'l'liyava'lai in Mullaiththeevu was reported missing since the final hours of genocidal onslaught on Vanni on 17 May, 2009. Thanoja's mother, Vathanalogini Viveganathan has been claiming for almost a year now that she discovered her missing daughter in a photo taken with the incumbent SL President Maithiripala Sirisena, when he was visiting a school in the South during his election campaign 12 months ago. The trauma-stricken mother has been approaching the political leaders and the investigating commissions to trace the girl in the photo. But, no one has done anything so far to verify the claim of the Tamil mother or to disprove it by acting on her complaint. Born on 23 June 1993, Thanoja, if alive, would be at the age of 22 this year.

SL politicians, including the wife of former SL President Mahinda Rajapaksa, were behind transferring a section of Tamil children, who were in custody of the SL military following the genocidal onslaught.

Mrs Vivagananthan believes that her daughter could be one of the Tamil children taken away to South and subjected to Sinhalicisation.

The mother had approached TNA's R. Sampanthan. He promised to help, but the TNA has done nothing so far, the mother said.

SL minister Mano Ganesan is the latest politician to promise her to act on tracing the photo. He wanted three months. “Only 20 days remain now. I am waiting for an answer from Mr Ganesan,” the trauma stricken Vathanalogini Viveganathan told TamilNet on Friday.

There have been several stories of people carrying photographic evidences of their missing kith and kin, either photographed in captivity by the occupying Sinhala soldiers or in SL military run farms inside the so-called High Security Zones where they have been deployed for slave work.

The so-called investigating commissions, ranging from the LLRC to the Sri Lankan Presidential Commission to Investigate into Complaints Regarding Missing Persons (PCICMP), currently staging sessions in Jaffna, have done nothing to trace the whereabouts of the people seen in such photographs, rights activists in Jaffna said.
