Maithiripala to stage another selfie session in Jaffna before next Geneva session

[TamilNet, Thursday, 09 June 2016, 22:31 GMT]
Maithiripala Sirisena, the president of genocidal Sri Lanka, is scheduled to visit Jaffna on 18 June to take part in another publicity and ‘selfie’ stunt. Amidst the ‘lack’ of fresh venues to be released to the uprooted Tamils, the visiting SL President will be taking part in an event of ‘releasing’ Nadeswara College and Nadeswara Kansita Viththiyaalayam at militarized Kaangkeasan-thu'rai (KKS) for the second time this year. Mr Sirisena handed over the two schools at a PR move on 12 March. Since the initial PR move, which was also timed before a Geneva session earlier this year, the teachers and the labourers engaged in the reconstruction were being regularly harassed at the ‘Forward Defence Line’ of the SL military zone. Although education activities have been launched last Friday, the schools are still kept under military zone and civilians have not been allowed to resettle there.

The schools have been functioning at a temporary facility in front of Thurkkai Amman Temple for 27 years.

While Suresh Premachandran, a former parliamentarian and the leader of EPRLF, one of the four parties in the Tamil National Alliance, characterized the scheduled visit by Maithiripala Sirisena as a trip to provide photos fooling the international community, Shageevan Shanmugalingam, the chairman of the uprooted peoples society at Valikaamam North, who has been voicing for the release of lands in Valikaamam, asked how many times the SL President is going to release the same lands.

However, Tamil activists carefully watching the international culprits upholding the genocidal Sri Lanka, said Maithiripala was only a tool needed by the powers to furbish up the scenes that are determined by them.

The parents of the students attending Nadeswara College have complained that their children are forced to study under heavy military presence surrounding the college and the school, Mr Shageevan said.

More than 9,120 acres of lands remain as ‘High Security Zones’ with ‘Forward Defence Lines’ in Jaffna district alone. While 6,120 acres are officially categorized as HSZ and more than 3,000 acres still remain occupied surrounding the so-called FDLs of the HSZ.

The pockets of 1,300 acres of lands released by the new regime in Colombo were actually areas that were identified as the pockets to be released under the Rajapaksa regime, Tamil politicians say.
