Mannar GA arrested

(Adds Photo) The Government Agent of Mannar S.M Cruz was detained by Police investigators in Colombo today. A Tamil Parliamentarian said that the GA had been summoned to Colombo by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) this week.

cruz_s_m.jpgA special TID team from Mt.Lavinia, a large coastal suburb in southern Colombo, which raided the GA's residence at Mannar on August 31 had recovered, according to Police sources, a cache of explosives including the powerful C-2 type, 50 timing devices, 30 detonators and wires.

The cache was meant to be transported to Colombo in the GA's official vehicle by his driver Police claimed.

The explosives were discovered following the arrest of the GA's driver, Uthayan in Mannar by the TID they said.
