Man shot dead in Mannar

According to an eye witness report from Mannar, unidentified men on a motorcycle brought a blindfolded man to Tharakulam junction, about 4 km. north of Mannar town, and fired three shots at his head killing him on the spot.

Informed sources in Mannar town said the persons appeared to be members of the Counter Subversive Unit (CSU) of the Sri Lankan police.

The incident took place at about 6.00 p.m. this evening, the witness said.

The police arrived on scene a short while later and took the body to the Mannar hospital, the report said.

The witness said that the victim is a man in his 40' s who is thought to have been abducted from the Erukkalampitty area in North-western Mannar.

The victim is yet to be identified.
