Occupying SL Navy fences off temple of village deity near Villuk-ku’lam in Champoor

[TamilNet, Friday, 12 January 2018, 22:19 GMT]
The occupying Sinhala Navy of genocidal Sri Lanka has recently fenced off the temple of the village deity of Aathi (ancient) Vairavar, which is located near Champoor in Moothoor East of Trincomalee district. A few months ago, when the SL Navy was seizing more lands surrounding the naval training base of ‘SLNS Vidura’, the temple was left outside the ‘military zone’ for civilian access. But, in recent weeks, the SL Navy has moved on to absorb the Vairavar temple into military zone, according to the management of Champoor Vinaayakar Sana Samooka Nilayam, a local library in the area. The latest move also confirms the theory that the SL Navy was behind causing the recent controversy of so-called archaeological reserve of ‘Anuradhapura period’ Buddha stupa at Choodaik-kudaa in the nearby village of Kooniththeevu, where Eezham Tamils were having a village deity for at least 7 generations.

At least 3,200 acres of lands have been seized so far in the attempt to upgrade the SL Navy with a marine force, which is being groomed by the U.S. Pacific Command under the notion of ‘military-to-military’ engagement.

The SL Navy in its greed to seize more lands has been using several tactics as earlier reported in the recent months.

Aathi-vairavar temple is located to the east of the new SLNS Vidura base and to the west of Villuk-ku'lam lagoon, an agricultural area.

The temple and its lands of 1 acre were accessible to the civilians since they were allowed to resettle in Champoor.

The villagers have now started to complain that some of them are being affected with incurable diseases. The people of Champoor use to conduct rituals making special offers to Vairavar deity whenever they face such diseases, the secretary of Vinayakar Library told TamilNet on Friday.

The SL Navy has managed to seize more lands than what was being officially referred in media. The information put out to public consumption by the SL Defence Ministry was only talking about 180 acres of lands for SLNS Vidura. In reality almost 20 times more lands have been fenced off.

Since much of the lands are public lands, the transition has been silently carried out only involving the officials who are on the pay-list of Colombo.
