TPP on hunger-strike in Anuradhapura shifted to Welikade prison

[TamilNet, Monday, 17 September 2018, 22:06 GMT]
The SL Prison authorities have transferred one of the eight Tamil political prisoners who are on hunger-strike away from the prison at Anuradhapura citing the diabetic condition of the prisoner. In the meantime, Tamil National Peoples Front (TNPF) convened a press conference highlighting the significance of a mass struggle to support the protesters. University students in Jaffna are also planning to launch a wider student campaign in support of the hunger-strikers.

Tamil prisoner Sivasubramaniyam Thiillairaj, who hails from Jaffna, was transferred away from Anuradhapura.

Mariyathasan Sulaxan, Rasathurai Thirvuarul, Sooriyakanthi Jeyachandran, and Rasapallavan Thavarooban, who are from the Jaffna district, Sivapirakasam Sivaseelan Ki'linochchi and Thangavel Nimalan, who hails from Vavuniyaa, are continuing their hunger-strike in Anuradhapura.

The unitary state of genocidal Sri Lanka is refusing to recognise the Tamil prisoners of war and is only focused on dealing with them through the provisions of the draconian Prevention of Terrorism Act.

The SL State is able to sustain the PTA as the LTTE remains classified by the Western countries as a terrorist organisation.

The Tamil diaspora, contained by the establishments of the West, is lagging in efforts to challenge the terrorism label as well as failing to confront the double standards exercised by the global actors in delivering justice to the crimes committed against the nation of Eezham Tamils, student leaders at the University of Jaffna told TamilNet.

The students said they would launch a protest involving the grassroots across the districts in the North.
