Two more TPPs join hunger-strike, refuse medical admittance

[TamilNet, Sunday, 30 September 2018, 22:16 GMT]
The Tamil political prisoners waging hunger-strike for the 16th day on Sunday at Anuradhapura prison have sent a letter to the management of the prison not to admit them to medical treatment anymore. In the meantime, two TPPs joined the hunger strike today. Purusothaman Aravinthan who hails from Jaffna and Nallan Sivalingam from Vavuniyaa joined the campaign. The TPPs who were admitted for treatment were also back in the Anuradhapura prison continuing the protest.

Twelve TPPs are on the hunger-strike now.

The TPPs want a principled collective decision on their release or want their cases rapidly processed.

The SL President Maithiripala Sirisena has earlier passed a message through Opposition Leader R. Sampanthan stating that he would only be able to think about the response to TPPs protest after September 27.

However, that date was now postponed to October 02, according to the TPPs, who were in touch with the TNA Parliamentarians.

The TPPs said they had lost their patience and the refusal of medical admittance was a response to the postponement messages being conveyed back to them.

In the meantime, the grassroots groups that have mobilised in support of the protesting hunger strikers have launched village by village awareness protests in the district of Jaffna to expand the mass action.

The first village protest was staged at Punnalai on Sunday.
