SL military, police intervene in temple affairs in Champoor[TamilNet, Saturday, 14 September 2019, 21:37 GMT]The SL Police is unnecessarily intervening in the internal affairs regarding the consecration (Kumbhabhishekham) ritual of Champoor Sri Siththiviyaakar temple in Moothoor-East, Trincomalee, say Eezham Tamil residents in the village. The SL Police, along with the military intelligence wing of the occupying SL Army, have deployed their personnel to widen an ongoing rift concerning the consecration ceremony of the rebuilt temple. The Kumbhabhishekham is scheduled to commence on Sunday. The SL military intelligence and the police are also using a section of the former LTTE cadres, who had been subjected to prolonged incarceration and SL military ‘rehabilitation’, to escalate the conflict, the representatives of the board said. The occupying SL military destroyed Champoor Sri Siththi Vinyaakar temple as it launched attacks in the East deploying scorched earth tactics, in 2006. Now, the SL military intelligence is using a conflict, which is raging between the locally-born couples and those are settled in the village through marriage enjoying equal status in stating the rituals. The intervening officers are encouraging both sides of the conflict to gain their leverage. The SL military and police want to install their informants as “spies” into the trustee board as they want to know all the details of those sponsoring the temple activities, the sources said.
