A 21 year old woman, Jacintha Vellayutham, was wounded on her head, and her mother and sister have been reported missing after a shoot out at Thellippalai in Jaffna this morning, sources said.
Sources said the Sri Lanka Army had gone to the house during a cordon and search operation and asked for a list of family members living in the house. When Jacintha went inside the house to bring the list a gun shot was heard; she fell on the floor with an injury on her head, the sources added. She has been admitted to the Jaffna Teaching hospital. Her mother and sister who were in the house have been reported missing. The relatives had gone to SLA camps in the area, but were unable to trace them, the sources said. The Army has not given further information.
