Nine Policemen killed

Nine military trained policemen were killed and 17 wounded when the Liberation Tigers attacked a police camp at Thomaspuri in Vankalai, 5 km. north of Mannar around 2 a.m. this morning said sources.
Security sources said the Tigers attacked the police post with mortars, machine guns and small arms. They said the attack was repulsed. The wounded Policemen were air-lifted to Anuradhapura hospital the sources said. Hospital sources said four of the wounded are in critical condition. Sources in Mannar said heavy fighting went on till 5 a.m. this morning. Meanwhile, security sources said two Pucara jets launched air attack in the north-eastern Mullaithivu district around 9.40 a.m. this morning. They claimed the attack was launched on LTTE targets. Details of the air attack is not known.
