[TamilNet, Saturday, 20 November 1999, 09:06 GMT]
A special broadcast of the Voice of Tigers (VOT) said this afternoon that Liberation Tigers captured Paappamoddai north of Mannar and are advancing south towards Thiruketheesawaram. About hundred villages in the region have come under control during the offensive the radio said.

Meanwhile sources in Mannar said that the LTTE mortar units are firing on the Thallady base from the general area of Thirukketheeswaram and Manthai on the mainland west of Mannar town. They said that the army has opened up on the LTTE's suspected mortar positions from Thallady as well as the SLA camp in the Mannar fort.

Some shells fired by the Tigers fell near the Police Counter Subversive Unit office in the Uppukkulam suburb of Mannar town they said.

The Tigers are also firing mortars towards the Thallady base from Mundhal in Erukkalampiddy north of Mannar town according to the sources.
