Heavy fighting at Paranthan

Heavy fighting has erupted between the Liberation Tigers and the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) at Paranthan from the early hours of the morning today security sources said.

The sources said the Tigers have launched an attack on the Paranthan SLA base and the eastern flank of the Elephant Pass base.

They said the first attack on the base came around 1 a.m. and the Tigers launched an another attack around 5 a.m.

SLA sources claimed both the attacks were repulsed and the over 100 Liberation Tigers have been killed.

The LTTE has not yet released any statement.

Aid workers in Vanni said a large explosion and sounds of artillery fire sounds were continuously heard from midnight.
