UNP MP says rigging planned

The office of Ravi Karunanayake, an opposition parliamentarian of the United National Party (UNP), at Sri Jeyawardenepura was attacked allegedly by supporters of the ruling Peopleís Alliance around 8 p.m. Sunday evening, UNP sources said.
Two men who were at the office were severely assaulted and are admitted to Colombo hospital, they said Vehicles parked at the office were also damaged, the sources added. Meanwhile UNP organiser for the eastern Batticaloa district Alisagir Maulana claimed yesterday that PA activists are planning large-scale vote rigging and violence to disrupt polling at Tuesday's presidential election. In a complaint he lodged with the polls observers, Mr.Maulana has stated that vehicles with the registration numbers 41-5364 and 59-0830, are being used by some supporters of the PA, who are planning to rig votes. Mr.Maulana, who is also an MP, said vehicles with out registration numbers are being used to intimidate his party supporters. He has received information about ballot boxes which have already been filled and been taken to Kattankudy, he said.
