Umayalpuram SLA base captured - VoT

The Voice of Tigers (VoT) radio said in its night news broadcast that the Liberation Tigers have overrun the large Sri Lanka Army camp at Umayalpuram, about 5 k.m. south of Elephant Pass Base.

The radio said that the Tigers have brought further 10.2 square km area under their control as a result.

There were around 40 mini camps surrounding Umaiyalpuram SLA Brigade Headquarters when it fell into the hands of Liberation Tigers, VoT said.

The radio further said that 22 LTTE fighters were killed and gave their names.

In its noon broadcast, the radio named another 17 fighters killed in the fighting around Umayalpuram, bringing total LTTE casualties in the 2 day battle for Umayalpuram to 39.
