Heavy fighting has erupted again between the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and the Liberation Tigers, north of the strategic Elephant Pass base, from the early hours of the morning today said sources.

The Liberation Tigers and the Government troops continue to exchange artillery and mortars, the sources said.

The Liberation Tigers have fired long range artillery on several SLA camps along the western coast of Jaffna the sources said.

Meanwhile security sources in Jaffna said Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Kifir bombers and Helicopters gun-ships have been deployed to hit the suspected LTTE targets on Pooneryn and Kerativu areas, on the main land.

Residents said, SLAF conducted air raids in the coastal suburbs of Pashayoor, Gurunagar and Columbuththurai, in Jaffna, this morning.

However, details of damages were not immediately known the sources added.

Sources in Jaffna said the SLA continue to send reinforcement to Chavakachcheri, Pallai and other areas in the Thenmaradchchi division.
