Diarrhoea epidemic sweeps Jaffna

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 09 December 1997, 23:59 GMT]
An unidentified type of diarrhoea has hit the Thenmaradchi division in Jaffna. Three hundred people have been diagnosed with the disease.

One person died on December 7 and fifteen have been admitted to hospitals.

Patients with the disease complain of severe pain in the stomach and, unlike those afflicted by cholera, which has hit Colombo and suburbs, this form of diarrhoea does not cause vomiting said doctors in Chavakachcheri.
