150 Tamils arrested in Colombo

At least 150 Tamils were arrested during a search operation in the Welikade and Nawale areas of Colombo today, police sources said.

Police said security has been tightened in the capital ahead of the island's independence day celebrations on February 4.

Mr Yogarajan, MP, has brought the arrests to the notice of the Government's Anti-Harassment Committee.

Elsewhere in the capital, a bomb was recovered and defused from a barber shop in Vihare Lane, Wellawatte, a suburb of Colombo on Tuesday night, the police said

Police arrested seven Tamils who were seen in the salon at the time, the sources said.
