A youth who was abducted from his house by unidentified gunmen on January 29 is reported as being held at the Kankesanthurai detention centre in Jaffna said human rights sources there.

Ratnasingham Kamalakaran, 20, who was arrested by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers on January 29, was released on same day, on condition that he report to the Achchelu SLA camp the following day, his relatives said in a complaint to the Human Rights Commission in Jaffna.

However, gunmen abducted him from his house on that night, and he has been reported 'missing' since then.

The SLA authorities have now sent a receipt of arrest to his relatives, stating the date of his arrest as January 14.
